The
Lighthouse - Back To Front: The Coastline of the
Mornington Peninsula
Location:
Mornington Peninsula
Date
Released: March 2005
Standing at the top of the cliffs
at Cape Schanck is the historic
lighthouse. Built in 1859 to
replace the earlier signal tower,
it was Victoria's second coastal
lighthouse and with a unique stone
staircase as opposed to the usual
wrought iron found in all the
others. It too is one of
only a few lighthouses that
continue to use a rotating
light. Cape Schanck has some
of Victoria's freshest air and
almost always faces strong
south-westerly winds and is host
to many wonderful coastal
features.
